Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion,
by Robert Cialdini.
This book, originally published in
1984 and revised several times since, never mentions finance or investing.
However, it is a favorite of Charlie Munger (Warren Buffett’s long-time
business partner) because it does such a good job of explaining how
easily people are influenced by external pressures—and if there is one
primary requirement of successful investing, it’s the ability to think
(and act) independently. I read most of this book on a plane trip to
and from New England, and I became so engrossed in it that I found
myself hoping the flights would last longer. How’s that for an
endorsement? |
